He has over 25 years of research experience in electrochemistry, energy devices, materials chemistry synthesis and sensors. He has published over 230 papers, 12 patents, 4 Chapters in Handbooks and 1 edited book (High energy density Li batteries, Wiley-VCH 2010). He has supervised over 30 PhD students, 20 post-doctoral researchers, over 15 visiting students and hosted 8 visiting professors. Currently, Dr Kumar’s research group consists of 12 PhD students, 1 MPhil student (by research), 6 post-doctoral researchers and 3 visiting researchers working on a number of research products underpinned by harnessing of electrochemical reactions in a variety of applications that range from energy devices such as batteries and fuel cells to environmental research in mineral carbonation, sensors, sustainability and recycling of materials and photo catalytic reactions.
His group has worked very closely with industry and research organizations and has been successful in transferring technology to industry. He is a world class scientist – entrepreneur promoting technologies relevant in developed and emerging economies.
